The Silence Behind Words
I am, by calling, a dealer in words;
and words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.
The reality we can put into words is never reality itself.
The concept, the label, is perpetually hiding from us all the nature of the real.
The more I think about language, the more it amazes me that people ever understand each other at all.
You see how I try to reach with words what matters most––and how I fail.
To know and feel all this and not have the words to express it makes a human a grave of his own thoughts.
Where is that man who has forgotten words that I may have a word with him?
And isn't it better really to leave things only hinted at?
We're fascinated by the words
but where we meet is in the silence behind them.
