The Man With A Career
We have become a civilization based on work—
not even productive work
but work as an end and meaning in itself.
I know of nothing more despicable and pathetic
than a man who devotes all the hours of the waking day to the making of money for money’s sake.
There's nothing in the world so demoralizing as money.
Making money isn't hard in itself
What's hard is to earn it doing something worth devoting one’s life to.
What does the money machine eat?
It eats youth, spontaneity, life, beauty,
and, above all, it eats creativity.
Only those who decline to scramble up the career ladder are interesting as human beings.
Nothing is as boring as a man with a career.
